Who we are

This website is operated by Whittaker Electrical Limited (“Whittaker Electrical”, “we”, “us”, “our”), Unit 2/11 Hurley Road, Paraparaumu Beach, Paraparaumu 5032, New Zealand. We are an agency for the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, what we do with it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to our website at whittakerelectrical.co.nz and to the electrical services we provide.

The information we collect from you

We only collect personal information that we genuinely need in order to quote, book, carry out and invoice electrical work, and to run our business properly. That usually includes:

• Contact details – your name, phone number, email address and the address of the property we are working at.
• Job information – what you have asked us to do, notes and photos of the work, access instructions, and records of the work we completed.
• Billing information – invoices, payment records and any correspondence about them. We do not store credit card numbers; payments are handled by our bank or payment provider.
• Correspondence – enquiries you send through our website form, emails, texts and phone conversations about your job.
• Website information – technical and usage information collected automatically, described under Cookies and analytics below.

You do not have to give us your personal information, but if you do not we may be unable to book or carry out work for you.

Information we collect from other people

Sometimes we receive your personal information from someone other than you. For an electrical business this commonly happens when:

• a friend, neighbour or previous customer refers you to us and passes on your name and number;
• a landlord, property manager or real estate agent books work at a property you occupy;
• a builder, main contractor, architect or project manager engages us on a site where you are the homeowner;
• an insurer, or another trade working on your property, provides your contact details so we can arrange access.

Where we collect your information indirectly like this, information privacy principle 3A of the Privacy Act 2020 (in force from 1 May 2026) requires us to take reasonable steps to make you aware of the collection. We do that by telling you when we first make contact, and by publishing this policy. In those situations we collect the same limited details listed above, for the same purposes, and we treat them exactly as if you had given them to us directly.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

• respond to your enquiry and arrange a time to visit;
• price, schedule, carry out and complete electrical work;
• issue certificates of compliance and other records we are required to keep;
• invoice you and manage payment;
• keep a service history so we can help you better next time;
• meet our legal, tax, health and safety and electrical regulatory obligations;
• improve our website and our services;
• send you occasional updates about our services, where you have agreed to receive them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade or rent it to anyone.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where we need to, and only with parties who are required to protect it:

• Our service providers – website hosting, email, cloud storage, accounting and invoicing software, and job management tools.
• Our tradespeople and subcontractors – where they are helping deliver your job.
• Suppliers and manufacturers – where a product warranty or registration requires it.
• Regulators and authorities – where we are required by law, including electrical safety certification requirements.
• Professional advisers – our accountant, insurer or lawyer, where genuinely necessary.

Some of these providers store information on servers outside New Zealand, including in Australia and the United States. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable safeguards are in place, as required by information privacy principle 12.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small text file stored on your device that helps a website work properly and helps us understand how the site is being used.

• Necessary cookies – required for the website to function, for example to keep the site secure and to remember your cookie preferences. These cannot be turned off.
• Analytics cookies – we use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand how people find and use our site, which pages are useful, and where we can improve. This information is aggregated and we do not use it to identify individual visitors.
• Advertising cookies – if we run online advertising, these may be used to measure how well an ad performed and to show our ads to people who have visited our site.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using the browser add-on Google provides. Turning off cookies may affect how parts of the site work.

Our site may also embed content from other services, such as a Google map or a video. Those services may set their own cookies and are governed by their own privacy policies.

How we keep it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. That includes password protected systems, encrypted connections, access limited to the people who need it, and reputable providers for hosting and storage.

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by Part 6 of the Privacy Act 2020.

How long we keep it

We keep job records, certificates and invoices for at least seven years, to meet our tax and electrical compliance obligations. Enquiries that do not turn into work are kept only as long as they are useful, and then deleted. We do not keep personal information for longer than we need it.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. There is no charge for a reasonable request, and we will respond within 20 working days.

Marketing and unsubscribing

If we send you marketing emails, every message will include a way to unsubscribe, and we will action it promptly. This is consistent with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. We may still contact you about a job you have booked, an invoice, or a safety matter.

Children

Our website and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first – email hello@whittakerelectrical.co.nz and we will look into it properly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The current version will always be published on this page with the date it was last updated.
